Why luxury vehicles usually travel enclosed
In an enclosed trailer, the vehicle stays covered from rain, sun, wind and road debris, and it is out of sight on the road. Many enclosed trailers have a liftgate for low-clearance vehicles, though not all do. Read more on our Enclosed Auto Transport page, or compare it with open transport in our guide to Open vs Enclosed Car Shipping.
Common reasons to ship a luxury vehicle
- Buying from a dealer or a private seller in another state
- Delivery to a new home or a second home
- Taking a vehicle to or from an event, a track day or a show
- Seasonal moves between homes
- Moving a vehicle for a dealer or a collector
How luxury vehicle transport works
- 1
Request a quote
Tell us the year, make and model, any modifications, whether the vehicle runs, and the pickup and delivery locations.
- 2
Tell us about special needs
Ground clearance, a lowered suspension, a long wheelbase, or access limits at either end help us match the right equipment.
- 3
We match your vehicle with a carrier
We work with vetted carriers that run enclosed equipment and handle high-value vehicles.
- 4
Pickup and inspection
You and the carrier note the condition of the vehicle, with photos, before it is loaded.
- 5
Transport and delivery
The vehicle travels in the enclosed trailer. We stay in touch about the schedule. Pickup and delivery windows are estimates and can change with weather, traffic and carrier schedules.
Getting your vehicle ready
Wash the vehicle and take dated photos from every side.
Keep the fuel tank at about a quarter full.
Remove personal items, toll tags and anything not attached. Personal items should not be left inside the vehicle.
Note the lowest point of the vehicle and any special loading instructions.
Keep both sets of keys and any special instructions ready for the driver.
Insurance
AutoStar does not carry an insurance policy for vehicle transports, as we are not the carrier. Coverage for transport-related damages is provided by the assigned carrier, which AutoStar screens and selects. Customers seeking additional coverage for high-value or collector vehicles may purchase it independently through their own insurance provider or a third-party insurance provider. AutoStar does not sell additional coverage or refer customers to specific insurance providers.

Exotic & Luxury Vehicle Transport FAQs
It depends on the distance, the route, the size and weight of the vehicle, the season and the type of trailer. Enclosed transport usually costs more than open transport. We quote each vehicle individually, so send us the details and locations.
Many owners choose it because the vehicle stays covered for the whole trip. Open transport is available too, and it is the lower-cost option for owners who prefer it.
Many enclosed trailers have a liftgate, but not all of them do, and trailers come in hard-sided and soft-sided versions. Tell us the model and any modifications so we can match the right equipment.
Yes. There is no extra charge for electric vehicles, although some cost more to transport than similar fuel-powered cars because electric vehicles are generally heavier. See also our Electric Vehicle Shipping page.
