Classic Car Transport Across the United States
A classic car is more than a vehicle. Whether it is a restored muscle car, an antique, or a collector piece, it needs a move that treats it that way. AutoStar Transport Express is a licensed auto transport broker (FMCSA MC #600908). We arrange classic car transport with vetted carriers that run enclosed trailers, and we stay with you from the quote to delivery.

Why classic cars usually travel enclosed
Classic cars are often irreplaceable, and many have original paint, trim or parts. Enclosed transport keeps the car covered from weather, sun and road debris for the whole trip. It is the option we recommend you consider first for a classic or collector car. Read more on our Enclosed Auto Transport page.
Open transport is also available for classic cars when the owner prefers it. Our guide to Open vs Enclosed Car Shipping compares the two.
Common reasons to ship a classic car
- Buying a car from a seller in another state
- Taking a car to or from a show, a concours or an auction
- Moving a collection to a new home
- Moving a car between seasonal homes
- Delivering a restored car from the shop to its owner
How classic car transport works
- 1
Request a quote
Tell us the year, make and model, whether it runs, any modifications, and the pickup and delivery locations.
- 2
Tell us about the car
Details such as ground clearance, a lowered suspension, a long wheelbase or a car that does not run help us match the right equipment.
- 3
We match your car with a carrier
We work with vetted carriers with enclosed equipment and experience with collector vehicles.
- 4
Pickup and inspection
The carrier and you note the condition of the car, with photos, before it is loaded.
- 5
Transport and delivery
The car travels in the enclosed trailer. We stay in touch about the schedule. Pickup and delivery windows are estimates and can change with weather, traffic and carrier schedules.
Preparing your classic car for transport
Wash the car so existing marks are easy to see, and take dated photos.
Keep the fuel tank at about a quarter full.
Remove personal items and anything that is not attached. Personal items should not be left inside the vehicle.
Note anything the carrier should know: a manual choke, a battery cutoff, a tricky starting routine, or a low front spoiler.
Keep the keys and any special instructions ready for the driver.
Insurance
AutoStar does not carry an insurance policy for vehicle transports, as we are not the carrier. Coverage for transport-related damages is provided by the assigned carrier, which AutoStar screens and selects. Customers seeking additional coverage for high-value or collector vehicles may purchase it independently through their own insurance provider or a third-party insurance provider. AutoStar does not sell additional coverage or refer customers to specific insurance providers.

Classic Car Transport FAQs
It depends on the distance, the route, the size and weight of the car, the season, and whether it travels enclosed or open. We quote each car individually. Send us the vehicle details and locations to get a quote.
Many owners choose enclosed transport for classic, antique and collector cars because the car stays covered for the whole trip. Open transport is also available if you prefer it.
Yes, we regularly handle inoperable vehicles. Our carrier network includes transporters equipped to move vehicles that roll, brake and steer. If the car does not roll, brake or steer, we can still arrange transportation, but it needs additional equipment and coordination, so the price is researched and quoted case by case. Tell us the condition of the car when you ask for the quote.
Enclosed trailers come in soft-sided, hard-sided, single-vehicle and multi-vehicle versions. Many have a liftgate, but not all of them do. Tell us the model and any modifications so we can match the right equipment.
Someone should be present, or arrange for a person you trust, so the car can be inspected and the condition noted at both ends.
